After the highly emotional midseason finale of "Grey's Anatomy" season 11, fans will find out what's next for Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and Derek's (Patrick Dempsey) relationship at long last.

Before the first half of the season ended, Derek decided to take the new job offer that was presented to him. This means that he will have to leave the Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital to move to Washington D.C., which is several miles away from his wife Meredith.

Meanwhile, spoilers claim that one of the biggest story arcs in the second half of "Grey's Anatomy" season 11 is Dr. Nicole Herman's (Geena Davis) inoperative brain tumor. Her steward, Dr. Arizona Robbins, was worrying about her symptoms before the series went into hiatus.

In the upcoming episodes, viewers will see that Arizona will work with Amelia (Caterina Scorsone) to help remove Herman's tumor despite her firm reluctance to any treatments.

Also, fans will see how Jackson (Jesse Williams) and April (Sarah Drew) will manage the possible risks of her pregnancy in the upcoming episodes. The baby was discovered with a rare genetic disease, yet the couple remains oblivious about it by staying positive and celebrating April's pregnancy. Will her baby survive once it comes out from her womb?

In an interview with TVLine, series creator Shonda Rhimes shared that the couple will be dealing with the problem together. Rhimes also disproved claims that Jackson will be keeping the truth away from his wife.

"That would just make him an awful human being. So we're not playing that," the seasoned executive producer stated.

She also mentioned that the couple will struggle with their conflicting beliefs because of their current predicament.

"For Jackson, who is a man of science, and April, who is a doctor filled with faith, it is going to be a very interesting struggle," Rhimes said.

"Grey's Anatomy" season 11 returns on Jan. 29 on ABC.
