'Gran Turismo Sport' release date: Final tally will have more than 500 cars, says game director Kazunori Yamauchi

Although the November release of "Gran Turismo Sport" will only see 140 cars, game director Kazunori Yamauchi assures fans that expansion content and updates will lead to a total tally of at least 500 cars.

According to Attack of the Fanboy, in a recent interview, the game director was positive about the direction the new sequel is taking.

Yamauchi stated to Chinese website Sina, "In the end, there will be around 4 to 5 hundred cars. All cars have been re-modeled, and there won't be standard cars." Although the director has not stated it directly, Yamauchi is hinting that at least a number of expansion content is already planned even before the game releases. It is revealed that by its roll out later this year, "Gran Turismo Sport" will launch with only 140 cars in its roster.

Meanwhile, the November release of the game is already set in stone, even if the development is on-going. Yamauchi stated that the game is already on its finishing touches: "We're hard at work every day, and [the game] keeps improving daily. The progress during the London reveal was at 50 percent, and now it's around 70 percent. There are still many aspects which can be further improved."

The game brings many changes to the franchise, and the most noted is that players will now be able to obtain a real racing license from Federation Internationale de L'Automobile, the governing body for the motor sport. However, developer Polyphony Digital and publisher Sony has set up strict standards for the license.

The game director told U.S. Gamer, "To become eligible for a Gran Turismo FIA license, you have to complete things like the racing etiquette aspect of the game, achieve silver or better in campaign mode, and then achieve and maintain a certain level of sportsmanship points."

"Gran Turismo Sport" is slated to release on Nov. 15 for the PlayStation 4.
