'Gotham' season 2 episode 5 spoilers: Wayne€“Galavan rivalry intensifies

Gordon tries to restore peace in the city as the Wayne–Galavan feud resurfaces in the upcoming episode of "Gotham." Facebook/Fox

The rivalry between the Waynes and the Galavans is resurrected and it looks like it is nastier than before in the upcoming episode of the Fox series "Gotham."

In "Rise of the Villains: Scarification," Comicbook reports that the feud between the two families is back and that it intensifies by the minute. Meanwhile, Detective Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) will find himself struggling to maintain order in the city, more so now that two of the meanest villains have joined forces.

Last episode, Theo (James Frain) sent Tabitha (Jessica Lucas) to tell Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor) her brother would like to talk to him. When they did meet, Theo revealed his plans to take over the mayor's office. He wanted Penguin to eliminate the other candidates so he could win the election easily. Penguin did not like being pushed, but then Theo told him they have his mother, Gertrude (Carol Kane), and if he did not do his bidding, he would have her killed.

Penguin had no choice, so he proceeded to kill the mayoral candidates one by one. Luckily, Gordon and his new team, the Unit Alpha of the Gotham City Police District (GCPD) Task Force formed by new precinct captain Nathaniel Barnes (Michael Chiklis), arrived at the scene and foiled his plans. When Gordon asked why Penguin was doing this, the latter chose not to answer, as he knew that Theo had the upper hand over him.

Captain Barnes then issued the unit's first real mission — to gather enough evidence to put Penguin behind bars. Meanwhile, it was revealed that Theo's plan all along was to get the Gotham Police Department after Penguin while he takes over the city. Next week, while he still has Penguin by the neck, they will join forces with a dangerous family in Gotham. Will Gordon and his Unit Alpha thwart their plans again, or will the coalition prove to be too strong and evil to defeat?

"Gotham" airs Mondays at 8 p.m. EST on Fox.
