GoPro Hero 5 release date, specs and features roundup: Action cam rollout pushed back to 2016

 GoPro Inc.

It has long been speculated that the GoPro Hero 5 will be released this October, but according to a recent report from Tech News Today, this release date has been pushed back to an undetermined 2016 date. According to the report, GoPro Inc. delayed the device's release in order to add a few upgrades and implement new features.

According to the report, these new features along with a more innovative design will help the GoPro Hero 5 fight against its competitors. However, the report does not indicate which new features and design changes the company is trying to implement.

One aspect that the device is reportedly going for is a smaller size which will make it more convenient to use and also make it far more portable. According to the report, the cameras will be small enough for the GoPro Hero 5 to be 50 percent smaller than the GoPro Hero 4.

Rumors also suggest that the Hero 5 will support 8K video recording in full HD. This will make the device's resolution twice that of the Hero 4 Black. Previous models are capable of recording in 30 frames per second, but the Hero 5 will allegedly be able to record full 4K Ultra HD at 60 fps.

The report also says that the new device will be waterproof, and will be capable of recording videos under 60 to 100 feet of water. This new feature will allow users to record underwater videos without having to purchase additional accessories.

A report from the GazetteReview back in July also indicated that the GoPro Hero 5 may sport the capability of capturing 3D videos. This will make the Hero 5 the first action camera to support this feature, although the company has not yet confirmed if it will indeed be implemented on cam.

Because of the delay and new features, the GoPro Hero 5 may no longer sport a $450 tag and may now cost up to $550.
