When Google concluded its Sept. 29 event, many fans were excited about top-tier outings such as those of the new Android 6.0 Marshmallow and two new Nexus phones in the lineup. However, a seemingly overlooked detail of the event was that the company also managed to include the unveiling of a new tablet.
Dubbed the Pixel C, the device is not just an ordinary 10-inch tablet; Sundar Pichai's announcement of the hybrid device promised the Pixel C to be a workhorse that could give even the recently released iPad Pro and Microsoft's Surface Pro line a run for their money.
Branded under the lineup of Google's premium Chromebook Pixel laptops, the Pixel C's specs sheet reads like most professional-level, 2-in-1 hybrids, according to industry observer Wired. In terms of display, the Pixel C's 10.2-inch screen displays in 1.42:1 aspect ratio, with a stunning 2560 x 1800 resolution and a pixel density of 308 pixels per inch, much higher than the iPad Pro's 264 even with its Retina display fully optimized.
Under the hood, the Pixel C also packs premium specs. Noted by The Verge, Google installed an Nvidia Tegra X1 processor in the new hybrid, partnered with 3 GB of a newer LPDDR4 standard RAM. In addition, the Pixel C also houses a "desktop-level" Maxwell GPU. Another detail on its specs sheet is its USB Type-C connectivity, which also addresses the Pixel C's slim form factor. The port is optimized much like the current integration of the USB Type-C connection in the 2015 Chromebook Pixel, and the connection can be used for both data transfer and power charging, with the port itself having integrated light bars that display how much battery is left in the device.
The Pixel was also unveiled carrying the new Android platform right out of the box.
As with other top-of-the-line flagships, the Pixel C will ship out with premium prices. The 32-GB version will reportedly cost $499, while the higher 64-GB storage will allegedly have a price tag of $599, plus an additional $149 for the keyboard.
