Golovkin vs. Lemieux: Dela Hoya confident of KO win by IBF champ

Golden Boy Promotions CEO Oscar Dela Hoya has made a promise that his guy David Lemieux will come out victorious against Kazakh boxer Gennady Golovkin.

Lemieux and Golovkin will be facing each other at the Madison Square Garden in New York on Oct. 17, and the former boxer made a daunting prediction that the International Boxing Federation (IBF) champ will not just win but win with an emphatic knockout (KO).

"Yes, it's a tough fight because no fight is easy, but on October 17th, mark my words, this is my prediction, my humble prediction, I feel David Lemieux can knockout 'Triple G,' and we will have a new super star hailing from Canada," De La Hoya said at the Lemieux media workout last Wednesday.

Of course, everyone knows that such a prediction is up for debate. Considering that Triple G has practically run roughshod over his opponents leading to his 33–0 record where 30 have come via knockout, it remains to be seen if such a "humble prediction" will materialize.

For the champ who totes a 34–2 card with 31 KOs, such could happen. The only thing certain is that based on their records and past fights, folks on hand at Madison Square Garden will be in for quite a treat.

So how does Lemieux plan to offset the fact that Golovkin is an aggressive fighter? Well, he plans to apply more pressure which Dela Hoya believes will negate the Kazakh's rampage.

Further to that, he adds that Golovkin has not faced anyone as powerful as Lemieux so to cut it short, this bout promises to be action-packed and truly a treat for boxing fans.

The Golovkin vs. Lemieux tiff will be shown via HBO pay-per-view starting at 9:00 p.m. EST or 6:00 p.m. PST. A look over at 5Dimes sees Golovkin as the betting favorite over Lemieux.
