The European Commission said on Thursday it was granting 162 million euros (127 million pounds) of aid to Britain to help cover the costs of flooding last summer.
The country suffered its worst flooding in 60 years last June and July, killing at least nine people, delaying harvests and causing around 4.6 billion euros of damage to homes and businesses.
The grant from the European Union Solidarity Fund is expected to be used by UK authorities to cover some of the costs of restoring roads, water infrastructure and schools, securing dams, and cleanup and rescue operations.
The EU Solidarity Fund grants aid to member states in the event of a major natural disaster, and can allocate 1 billion euros a year.
