A university will pique the interest of the authorities in the upcoming episode of the CBS series "Elementary."

In "Alma Matters," TV.com reports the trail to a double murder will lead right to the hallowed walls of the educational institution. Upon investigation, Sherlock (Jonny Lee Miller) and Joan (Lucy Liu) will discover that the campus has been illegally recruiting students. The current murders will serve as the catalyst to expose the practices that the college has been keeping under the lid for years.

Meanwhile, Morland's (John Noble) mission to earn forgiveness from his son will encounter a huge hurdle when Sherlock learns of a secret the former has been keeping. Last episode, the older Holmes asked Joan to have dinner with him. He asked her a curious question about blood banks and storing his blood for future use. Joan also noted that Morland has strange eating habits and he has been popping pills by the mouthful. She thought he had cancer.

To check if her suspicion was true, Joan looked at Morland's old photos to see if there have been obvious physical changes in him. This could point out if he has been undergoing chemotherapy. She saw no indication of sickness, though. What Joan noticed was that Morland spent a lot of time with a certain woman in France. She was murdered in a drive-by shooting and Joan had reason to believe Morland was with her when that happened. In fact, he could have been the primary target of the assassins.

Morland could also have taken two bullets in his stomach himself. This could explain why he has been so worried about his health. When Sherlock was informed of Joan's discovery, he got worried. This meant his father went to New York, not to reconnect with him, but to hide from those who wanted to kill him. By doing so, Morland was also putting his and Joan's life in danger. Who wanted Morland dead?

"Elementary" season 4 airs Thursdays at 10 p.m. EST on CBS.
