'Doctor Who' series 9 spoilers: Steven Moffat updates fans

Peter Capaldi in Doctor Who BBC

The cast and production crew of the long-running sci-fi series "Doctor Who" are currently busy filming series 9, and loyal fans of the hit BBC show are eager to learn all they can about the upcoming adventures of the Time Lord.

Recently, series producer Steven Moffat talked about actors Peter Capaldi's and Jenna Coleman's return in the series for the second consecutive season. According to Moffat, the "Doctor Who" production always had new lead actors in the past, but this time, the two lead cast members are staying for another run.

The series showrunner also described Capaldi's amazing performance in the series.

In his interview with DS, Moffat said, "[Peter Capaldi] is on amazing form at the moment. I was looking at some of his first series stuff and thinking 'it's magnificent, but it's nothing compared to what he's doing now'."

He also claimed in his interview with RadioTimes after the Bafta Nominations party that Capaldi does not want to return as the same Time Lord that the fans have come to know last season.

Doctor Who's trusted companion Clara (Coleman), on the other hand, will reportedly have a big season coming up.

According to Moffat, "[Clara's journey in Season 9] is very pronounced. I can't say too much about it. She continues to complicate and that relationship between the two of them is incredibly strong."

The upcoming season will also introduce the two-part storyline, wherein the first six episodes will be divided into three separate sets with two episodes each to make it more unique compared to the earlier seasons.

"They're not all two-parters – sometimes they're just linked episodes. It's just making you slightly unsure you'll get through the story by the time the music comes up. We've all got to be on our toes, can't be relaxed," Moffat stated.

Aside from Capaldi and Coleman, actress Michelle Gomez will also reprise her role as Missy, the long-time nemesis of the Doctor, while "Game of Thrones" star Maisie Williams will join the cast this season as a guest character.
