With the fate of the final movie in the "Divergent" franchise hanging in the balance, it has been reported that Lionsgate is opting to convert the closing chapter — titled "Divergent: Ascendant" — into a television series instead.

According to reports, a huge chunk of the problem is the ongoing feud between lead stars Shailene Woodley and Theo James, who play lovers Tris and Four in the franchise.

Based on a report by Enstarz, Shailene is having issues with James' reasons for not having enough time to film for the final chapter after the actor has announced plans to have a big wedding with fiancé Ruth Kearney. The actress reportedly saw James' reason as unacceptable.

Rumors also speculate that Ruth is not very comfortable with her fiancé's on screen partnership with Shailene and would be supportive should her partner chose to beg off the final movie altogether.

Another reason cited for James' apprehension to continue with the franchise are rumors of him and Shailene dating in real life.

Should James quit the franchise, Shailene was also reportedly keen on quitting the project as she felt it would be detrimental to the continuity of the series to write another ending without Four in it.

The final chapter seems to be faced with an uphill battle ever since reports have emerged about it being converted into a series as Woodley expressed displeasure over the sudden change of plans due to the less than spectacular turnout of the third movie in the box office.

A report by Chat Sports Net said that the actress was not a fan of the decision because she was not interested in doing the television series and wanted to finish the franchise as a movie.

The same report cited that cast member Miles Teller's (Peter) had a similar reaction and said that when the cast signed on for the series, they "had every intention of finishing the movie theatrically."
