In order to tweak gameplay balance and make the Greater Rifts more interactive to players and monsters alike, game company Blizzard is looking to do away with the crowd control feature in a future content patch for "Diablo III."
Crowd control, or what most "Diablo" players refer to as simply CC, is a term that refers to skills used to distract, disable, or debuff enemies. Game parties use CC as a strategy, especially against higher-class bosses. Crowd control is also used to safely complete passage at high level Greater Rifts.
With the opening of Greater Rifts, most "Diablo" players have become dependent on crowd control and have entered extremely-high level areas even if their levels are not sufficient enough.
Blizzard developers have an on-going project of scaling down damage in Greater Rifts, and to balance players and monster levels in the areas. In connection to this, Blizzard community manager Grimiku announced that the studio is thinking of restricting permanent crown control, to be released in an upcoming patch.
Grimiku stated, "We're looking to disable permanent Crowd Control in an upcoming content patch to create more interaction with monsters at higher Greater Rifts levels."
However, Grimiku also added that the change will not be abrupt, and Blizzard will still have to check how to balance cancelling crowd control with a new gameplay.
The community manager said, "To complement that change, we will be also be evaluating how much damage monsters are dealing to players in that environment. One of our goals in the next major patch is to provide a more consistent Greater Rift experience while making sure that defensive Legendary items still matter."
Aside from a general announcement, there are no other details yet on when the change will take place. Blizzard hopes to accomplish checking out developments and overall improvements first before making major updates, and "Diablo" observers place a major update to be coming before the third season ends. This will also make major updates one of the key changes in opening the next season of "Diablo."
