Corsair's K70 RGB Rapidfire takes lead for fastest gaming keyboard

Corsair's new mechanical gaming keyboard K70 RGB Rapidfire Corsair

The K70 RGB Rapidfire is the ideal mechanical keyboard for gamers who are always in need of speedy inputs. It uses Cherry MX Speed RGB switches that are 40 percent faster than any other switches on gaming keyboards.

Digital Trends called the upgrade to the K70 LUZ RGB a Porsche in the mechanical keyboard race. Although the K70 RGB Rapidfire does not come with dedicated macro keys, physical media keys are built in the upper right corner of the mechanical keyboard. There is a volume wheel with a mute button sitting on its left. Between these and the number pad are dedicated keys for media control. The Stop, Backward, Play/Pause, and Forward keys will not only be a good fit for hardcore gamers but also a nice addition people who like to edit videos to post in social media.

With the help of Cherry's new Rapidfire mechanical key switches, the MX Speed RGB has a short actuation distance combined with a light actuation point. The keys, therefore, are activated easier and faster. Most mechanical keyboards use switches that have an actuation point of 2.0mm and 4.0mm of key travel. The K70 RGB Rapidfire marks at 1.2mm of actuation point at 3.4mm key travel. This is also a good benchmark for typists who are productivity oriented.

A multi-key commands test confirmed that the K70 RGB Rapidfire easily and quickly recognizes 10 keys that are pressed simultaneously. This anti-ghosting upgrade will eliminate rouge keystrokes that past gaming keyboards suffered from.

Although the Corsair K70 RGB Rapidfire has a $170 price tag, the brand is dominating the MX speed RGB market. The Ripjaws KM570 from G.Skill may be $50 cheaper, but with the performance of the Corsair mechanical keyboard, it does not even come close to a satisfying gaming result that fast-paced games these days require.

For first-person-shooter gamers, the K70 RGB Rapidfire does not fall short when playing "Overwatch," "Destiny 2," or "Call of Duty."
