Cleveland Cavaliers trade news: Jack Cooley signed to beef up bench

The Cleveland Cavaliers have signed up a curious choice in Jack Cooley, who had stints with the Utah Jazz.

With the National Basketball Association (NBA) regular season fast coming up, the Cavs are looking for players to fill up vital spots in their roster, and it seems that Cooley has gotten one of those positions.

Cooley is not expected to be an impact player or someone who can help the Cavs' cause dramatically. Although he has shown improvement when he was still in Utah, his signing is seen as nothing more than one to fill up the roster with players who can contribute somehow off the bench.

Per reports, Cooley signed up for just one year with a contract worth roughly $845,059. To accommodate his coming, the Cavs were even forced to let go of Chris Johnson.

The Cavs are scheduled to open their campaign against the Chicago Bulls with Lebron James looking questionable. James was ruled out from playing in the remaining preseason games due to what seems to be a recurrence of the old back injury.

Although the Cavs say that James was originally planned to sit out the final preseason matches, he did receive an anti-inflammatory injection for his back recently.

It was the same back problem that James had back in January, something that saw him sit out for about two weeks. With only a week away, the Cavs could open their campaign with James sitting it out until he is fit to play.

The Cavs plan to manage their roster and the players with injuries well throughout the season after their NBA Finals experience against the Golden State Warriors.

James was left to hold fort while others fell to the injury bug. Such included Kevin Love (shoulder) and Kyrie Irving (knee cap) in the post season, something that heavily told on the Cavs.

Love already made his preseason debut recently against the Toronto Raptors, while Irving could make his debut by 2016.
