The Cleveland Cavaliers are strapped for cash right now and apparently the team is looking at other alternatives to fill up their roster for the coming 2015-16 NBA wars.
And from the looks of it, one could be coming from Russia — Sasha Kaun.
Kaun was actually selected in the second round of the 2008 NBA draft but the Russian seven-footer has spent the past seven seasons playing ball over in Russia for CSKA Moscow.
Kaun was actually spotted over at the NBA Summer League alongside Lebron James and head coach David Blatt, sending feelers that the 30-year-old basketball player could possibly suit up for the Cavs next season on the NBA veteran's minimum salary.
Kaun seems to be open to the idea of playing for the Cavs despite a lower paycheck. He earned close to $2.9 million annually although it was mentioned in a report that the Russian center wouldn't mind taking less money to play for the Cavaliers.
What makes the speculations even more sound is that Kaun played under David Blatt before. He was a member of the bronze medal team at the 2012 Olympics and a member of the 2008 national championship team at the University of Kansas.
If Kaun does play, that would give the Cavs two Russian giants to man the slot. With Varejao far from being 100%, Kaun could probably take the place of Kendrick Perkins who is now a free agent.
At CSKA, Kaun averaged 10.2 points and 3.9 rebounds in 67 games. If the Cavs and Kaun fail to come to an agreement, a likely scenario would see the Cavs trading Kaun to a team which could possibly offer him more than what the team can afford.
Regardless, it seems that Kaun is seriously contemplating on playing in the NBA next season.
"As of now, I'm done playing in Russia and pretty sure I'm done in Europe," he was quoted as saying by the Lawrence Journal-World.
