The Cleveland Cavaliers are expected to make another big run for the National Basketball Association (NBA) title, and Iman Shumpert is making sure that he won't miss out on that chance to help.
Shumpert will be out for the next three-and-a-half months after undergoing surgery on his right wrist, but the 25-year-old guard vows to be back emphatically.
"I will recover and I will be back for blood," Shumpert wrote in an entry for the Bleacher Report.
Depending on how one takes that statement, it seems that Shumpert is looking to get back at someone who may have been the reason for his injury. But as it turns out, the statement is nothing more than a competitive phrase for the former 17th overall pick of the 2011 NBA Draft.
Counting the days, three and a half months means that Shumpert could be back by late February or early March. That would be more or less the second half of the season already, which would be right on schedule as the Cavs are expected to heat it up as they try to cement their place in the NBA playoff picture.
The scenario is no different from the run the Cavs did last season, so with a complete and healthy roster, one has to wonder how deadly the Cavs can be.
The Cavs are entering the season with a couple of stars recovering from injuries as well. Anderson Varejao, Kevin Love, and Kyrie Irving are expected to make their return.
Love could be back by the time the NBA season opens, while Irving is said to be making his debut by 2016.
The Cavs have learned a lot from their experience last season, seeing the value of proper player management and making sure that most players are fit and well. If that should be the case, the Cavs could finally nail their first NBA title, a promise that Lebron James intends to fulfill.
