Christians have been wishing the Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu, all the best as he recovers from surgery to treat advanced prostate cancer PA

Christians are rallying around the Archbishop of York after he revealed today that he has been treated on for advanced prostate cancer.

Dr John Sentamu said he would be "out of action for some time" following the operation today at St James' Hospital.

"I will continue to value your prayers," he said.

Christians and other friends and supporters responded within minutes of the news breaking by taking to Twitter to wish the Archbishop the best and ask other Christians to join them in praying for him:
