Christians called to pray for new Parliament and Government

In the aftermath of the General Election, Christians are being called to pray for the new Parliament and Government.

As the incoming Government gets to grips with the challenges facing the country and Members of Parliament take their seats, many for the first time, the Evangelical Alliance said now was a key time to support them in prayer.

Christian communities in Westminster and Whitehall will be joined by others across the UK to pray for God’s blessing in the political life of the country as part of the Week of Prayer for Parliament and Government, 5 -11 June 2010.

This year will be the seventh annual prayer week. Run by Christians in Parliament and Christians in Government, it is supported by the Evangelical Alliance, Bible Society and 24/7 Prayer International.

Andrew Selous MP, Chair of Christians in Parliament, says: “The Week of Prayer provides a significant and wonderful opportunity for us all together to seek the Lord’s will for politics. His mercy, wisdom and blessing are essential for Parliament and for Government. I hope that many will get involved.”

Simple and straight forward prayer resource packs have been produced to encourage more Christians to pray for Parliament and Government, and to help them pray more effectively for those in power. Churches and individuals can take advantage of ready-to-use power-point presentations such as a parliamentary prayer guide for use in church services.

A 60-minute prayer meeting plan gives an opportunity for in-depth communal prayer or individuals can follow a 7-day personal prayer guide during the week. The pack highlights information on websites and points to what is happening in the political world and specific ways to pray.



This year the web resources are fresh and offer an easy way to register to commit to covering a period of the week in prayer. Churches, small groups and individuals can book a slot through the 24/7 Prayer website.
