Christian students condemn attack on Jewish student stall

A stall set up by Jewish students at the National Union of Students (NUS) conference was vandalised this week.

Activists covered the logo of the Union of Jewish Students (UJS), including the Star of David symbol, with stickers calling for a boycott of Israeli goods.

The vandalism has been condemned by the Student Christian Movement.

“SCM utterly condemn this act of vandalism and we support the UJS in their call for strong action to be taken by the NUS,” said SCM member Paul Parker.

“Whatever people’s views are on the situation in the Middle East, progress towards a just and lasting peace will only be achieved through open and honest dialogue.”

The UJS represents more than 8,000 Jewish students in the UK and Ireland.

Writing on the UJS blog, a spokesperson for the organisation said that the conference should be "a safe space for all students".

The spokesperson added: "There is no excuse for this behaviour within the student movement.”
