'Chicago Fire' season 5 spoilers: Stella and Severide will take a break

 NBC

As stated by Ecumenical News, Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo) and Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney) may be momentarily breaking up in "Chicago Fire" season 5 as they try to take a step back and figure out the true nature of their relationship. Severide will also be thinking twice given how season 4 ended and what kind of trouble he might walk into.

"Chicago Fire" season 4 ended with the sudden cliffhanger of Grant (Guy Burnet) walking into Stella's house just as she and Severide were getting intimate together. The episode then ended with Grant supposedly picking up a knife. According to reports, this will cause Stella and Severide to take a break from their relationship.

"Seeing as Severide's higher on the call sheet, you can probably guess who wins that battle, but then there's fallout for Severide in terms of the guilt of what happened," showrunner Matt Olmstead told the Hollywood Reporter. "Severide is looking at Kidd like, 'You brought this guy into your life and now you brought him into my life.'"

Olmstead also confirmed that the next season would start right where season 4 left off, with the fight between Severide and Grant opening the premiere episode. However, this will not be the main focus of the episode as it will shift to Severide and Stella dealing with the ramifications of their decision to get together, right after Stella divorced Grant.

Some of these ramifications also include revelations about Severide's past and things he may have been involved with when he was 16 years old. It is also revealed that there is hope for Severide and Stella to get back together given that they are very compatible and have a lot of similarities.

It wasn't stated whether or not Severide will be getting into legal trouble for his little scuffle with Grant but it is hinted given that his past is going to be explored.

"Chicago Fire" season 5 will premiere this Oct. 11.
