Christopher Herrmann (David Eigenberg) is going to undergo an emotional crisis in the upcoming episode of the NBC series "Chicago Fire."

In "The Path of Destruction," Entertainment Weekly reports that the firefighter will be dealing with the aftermath of the incident that almost ended his life. Freddie (Ralph Rodriguez) stabbed Herrmann during the midseason finale. The residents of Firehouse 51 feared that he would not survive the harrowing experience. Thankfully, Herrmann lived and he soon returned to work.

Although he looks like he has fully recovered, deep down, Herrmann is a mess. He does not let his friends see it, but what happened to him still haunts him. Executive producer Matt Olmstead said in his interview that the firefighter would be making a choice, one that would require a lot of willpower. He said that Eigenberg's character would have to decide whether to move on and appreciate all that he has or let the ordeal prevent him from enjoying life.

"Like a lot of people who are victims of violent crimes, you go through a natural process that you're not even aware of anger and thoughts of revenge. But ultimately when the dust settles, whenever that is, you're left with a choice: Either this is going to make you pull back from the world, or you're going to appreciate what you had and almost lost and you're going to reengage fully with the world. He goes through a crucible when it comes to that, and he has to make a choice," Olmstead shared.

Meanwhile, TV.com reports that the whole city is bracing for the worst, as a tornado bears down on Chicago. The nature's threat will also take its toll on Herrmann, as he fears its path will hit close to home.

Chicago Fire" season 4 airs Tuesdays at 10 p.m. EST on NBC.
