The on-and-off relationship between the Chicago Bulls and point guard Kirk Hinrich continues this season, as the veteran was traded to the Atlanta Hawks in exchange for the young Justin Holiday.
Along with the Bulls and the Hawks, the Utah Jazz are also involved in the deal and sent a 2018 second round draft pick to Chicago.
In total, the Bulls acquired Holiday and the draft pick, who both can be used as trade pieces for future deals.
Holiday, the older brother of the New Orleans Pelicans' Jrue Holiday, is in his third year in the National Basketball Association (NBA) and before playing for the Hawks had plenty of experience in the international scene and in the NBA Developmental League (D-League).
The 26-year-old journeyman was even with the Golden State Warriors when they won the Finals last season and already has one championship.
Playing in 26 games (one start) for the Hawks this season, Holiday is averaging 2.4 points and one rebound in 10.1 minutes of action per contest; all these numbers are career-lows for him.
It is uncertain what role Holiday will have with Chicago since the team already has All-Star Jimmy Butler and E'Twaun Moore at the shooting guard position.
Butler and Moore will still have the normal minutes they are getting since the season began, which leaves Holiday having very limited or zero playing minutes.
Holiday might see action when head coach Fred Hoiberg aims to rest Butler and Moore to prepare them for crucial stretches in games.
Chicago already had issues with its rotation because of the big men they have in the roster, a problem that was only resolved when injuries to Joakim Noah and Nikola Mirotić emerged.
The Bulls are not having the best of years this 2015–16 NBA season and after leading the Eastern Conference at one point, are now eighth with a 27–26 record.
