'Castle' season 8 spoilers: New murder case brings Rick and Kate together in episode 9

Rick and Kate team up for a new case in the upcoming episode of "Castle." ABC

Fans of "Castle" will have to wait a little longer to see Rick (Nathan Fillion) and Kate (Stana Katic) team up to solve a case. The hit ABC series will return with the second half of season 8 in February, and it promises to feature the much awaited reunion of husband and wife.

Rick and Kate finally tossed aside their differences and got back together during the midseason finale. In the upcoming episode titled "Tone Death," Entertainment Weekly reports that they will work together investigating a murder case. A member of a competitive a capella group is found murdered and the pair is tapped to find his killer. The case will be the first time Rick and Kate will be working together after a long time.

Although they are officially together again, the couple will reportedly keep the happy news of the reunion to themselves for a while. Their colleagues will have no idea that they have settled their differences, as in public, they will act as if they are still estranged. This is purportedly due to Kate's wish to separate their professional and personal lives. Hence, when viewers see them acting cold toward each other, they will know it is all a ruse.

Meanwhile, showrunner Alexi Hawley promised that season 8B would reveal the mystery behind Rick's long disappearance and memory loss back in season 7. In his interview with TV Line, Hawley stated that what they showed last installment about what happened to Rick was not a sufficient explanation and that they were working hard to "nail the story down."

"We're going to go to Castle's missing time next when the season resumes. We haven't nailed the story down for it, but we do like the idea that something that Castle came across during his missing time is actually why his memory was wiped... And it does have something to do with Beckett," the executive producer said.

"Castle" season 8 will return Feb. 1 at 10 p.m. EST on ABC.
