Kate (Stana Katic) maybe the reason why her husband lost his memory on that fateful night back in season 7 of the ABC series "Castle." Showrunner Alexi Hawley told TV Line that the upcoming episode will reveal exactly what happened on the day Rick (Nathan Fillion) lost his memory.

While the storyline was already explained in the past installment, fans were not exactly enlightened what transpired when Rick suddenly disappeared on his wedding day. Hawley said they have been thinking of expounding on it more, although they have not quite nailed down the plot yet. The executive producer also let slip that Kate and LokSat may have something to do with the incident.

"We do like the idea that something that Castle came across during his missing time is actually why his memory was wiped, and it wasn't necessarily about the reason we showed in season 7. And it does have something to do with Beckett," Hawley teased.

Kate has been working on the LokSat case for some time now, and her involvement in it was actually the reason for her marital problems with Rick. During the midseason finale, she finally conceded the fact that she was remiss of her duties as a wife and apologized to Rick. She also told him that she needed his help to take down the drug cartel.

Meanwhile, Hawley said in a recent interview that they were treating season 8 as the series finale. ABC has yet to renew "Castle" for its ninth installment. As the showrunners were not sure if Rick and Kate's story will still continue, they want to tell "a satisfying story and try to wrap up the season in an exciting way." He also said that the network execs usually hold off on making the decision until very late, which make the waiting all the more suspenseful.

"Castle" season 8 will return on Monday, Feb. 1, 2016, at 8 p.m. EST on ABC.
