'Castle' season 8 spoilers: Details on time jump and changes in new episodes

Stana Katic and Nathan Fillion in Castle ABC

When "Castle" season 8 premieres, things won't be the same for Beckett and Castle. Showrunner Alexi Hawley recently told TV Line that the series will pick up "only a few months" after the events in the previous season, but even with such a short amount of time, there are many changes to expect.

Beckett will soon be the precinct's captain and Castle will feel the difference between having a wife who is a fellow detective and one that's the head of the workplace. However, showrunners Hawley and Terrence Winter said that Beckett and Castle will get into "fun" conflicts.

The premiere episode of "Castle" season 8 is titled "XY," and the following episode is called "XX". According to Carter Matt, the installments are related with each other but at the same time, they will be distinct in terms of who will be front and center.

The first episode, which is interpreted by the aforementioned publication as the chromosome that determines male, will be all about Castle. Following the same theme, the second episode will have the spotlight on Beckett, probably about her transition into a higher position. At the moment, there is no way of knowing what these episodes hold but it is interesting to see what binds these two together.

In other related news, Adam Baldwin was brought back to the series after four seasons. In season 4, he played the role of a rude cop named Detective Ethan Slaughter, who Castle worked with in an episode called "Headhunters." It remains to be seen why Slaughter was roped back in or how long he will be there, although there are reports that he will be Castle's new partner. With Beckett taking on another role, the detective will need another one to accompany him in his super-sleuthing feats.

"Castle" season 8 will premiere on Sept. 21.
