Canelo Alvarez next fight rumors: Juan Manuel Marquez sees Mexican brawler winning over Gennady Golovkin

It seems like a no brainer that Juan Manuel "El Dinamita" Marquez would side with his countryman Saúl "Canelo" Alvarez against whomever he faces. That, however, excludes his last opponent, Miguel Cotto.

In the Alvarez vs. Cotto mega bout held last November, Marquez picked the latter to win, according to Boxingscene.com.

Alvarez, of course, proved the future Hall of Famer, wrong when he won via unanimous decision. With the win, Alvarez defied the call and became the lineal World Boxing Council (WBC) middleweight champion. But along with that win comes a name he would have to face — Gennady "Triple G" Golovkin.

Even before Alvarez won, it was already known that the WBC would require the winner to face Triple G. The WBC has since softened its stance on that, allowing Alvarez and Golovkin to face voluntary matches.

But at some point, Alvarez will have to face reality and go up against Golovkin, unless he is fine about vacating the title just to avoid the Kazak knockout artist.

Such would be a shame and something that may not speak well of Alvarez. It goes against his earlier rant, saying that he would fight anyone thrown at him, although such included a catch weight clause of 155 pounds. That clause is something that the WBC and Golovkin is unlikely to recognize.

Marquez, however, believes that Alvarez has the stuff to pull off a win against Golovkin but on points.

El Dinamita was apparently impressed at how Alvarez handed Cotto and believes a similar effort and performance could allow him to hand Triple G his first loss in the ring.

That would mean, of course, that Alvarez would have to use a tactical approach which could restrain him from being aggressive. Understandably, everyone knows the damage Golovkin can do, so it would be wise to adopt a conservative approach.

Right now, all that will remain up in the air. There is no word yet on what Alvarez' plans are, although all that could be known by the middle of 2016, after the Mexican's planned voluntary fight.
