Boxing news 2016: Amir Khan still asking for the stars?

Amir Khan has been known to think highly of himself but after being shunned two times in a row, the British southpaw may want to re-think that.

Khan currently finds himself in search of a big fight but at the rate he is going, he is well on his way of ending up with yet another miss if he continues to demand a higher piece of the fight purse.

Khan was recently named as the mandatory challenger to the World Boxing Council (WBC) welterweight belt. With Danny Garcia's earlier win over Robert Guerrero, it is believed that a rematch between the two could be taking place next.

Garcia handed Khan a loss back in 2014 via total knockout (TKO) and now, the Briton could get the chance for payback. However, Garcia is not keen on an immediate rematch with the mandatory challenger, at least not yet.

Instead, Garcia is eyeing a fight with Kell Brook, according to Sky Sports. Ironically, Brook is the same fighter that recently hit Khan for asking too much.

Khan was initially asking for an 80-20 split which Eddie Hearn and Brook threw out of the window. Instead they countered with a 60-40 split in favor of Khan for a possible fight this June in Wembley.

Apparently, Brook is not concerned with the fight purse and is more interested in making the fight happen. But all that was before the WBC title fight between Garcia and Guerrero.

So right now, Khan may have been eased out of the equation and looms to be shunned for the third time in a row.

Khan's fortunes of falling short of big fights could be his own doing as well. While his stock is undeniable, the fact remains that his knack for being picky has cost him key fights.

If he ends up failing to land a fight by May, it will mark a year since his last fight. He last fought Chris Algieri which he won via decision. That fight hardly impressed many, so Khan may want to do some serious soul-searching.
