Boxing news 2015: Viktor Postol vs. Terence Crawford fight happening?

Viktor Postol will be known as the man who crushed an Argentine boxer's dream but rather than focus on that angle, the reality of it all is that he is now an official champion — the new World Boxing Council (WBC) super lightweight king.

Heading into the fight, the obvious favorite was Lucas Matthysse. The Argentine was looking to win his first major boxing title, but distractions, apparently, got in the way.

Of course, this had to do with talk that he could be the next opponent of the returning Manny Pacquiao in 2016 and many feel he looked too far ahead than settle the bout on hand.

And for that, Matthysse paid dearly, being defeated by a knockout that left many surprised.

Postol simply fought the way he would and now, he is on top of the world. He remains undefeated and just registered the 29th win of his career.

So what lies ahead for Postol? Why not pick him to fight Pacquiao? That may not happen for now.

A reality check will see that his trainer is also the one handling the Filipino boxer so a match between Postol and Pacquiao is not likely to prosper. That is unless somewhere along the road, he decides to change trainers. But that is, of course, the extreme.

Instead of Pacquiao, Postol could be lined up against Terence Crawford.

"I was told in the ring that he is a great fighter," Postol said via the LA Daily News. "I want to fight him, but the question is, is he ready to fight me?"

It will be Crawford's turn to take the ring on Oct. 24 as he defends his World Boxing Organization (WBO) lightweight world title against Dierry Jean of Canada.

So, would a possible tiff ensue after that?

A curious report from Boxingscene.com reveals that Postol was offered a possible match with Crawford on the same date but the champ apparently decided to go with Jean instead.

But now, it seems things have changed and the latest on this possible face-off could be known after that Oct. 24 tiff, which will be held at the CenturyLink Center in Omaha, Nebraska.
