Boston Celtics trade rumors 2016: Hooking Danilo Gallinari foiled?

The Boston Celtics have been expectedly an active team in recent weeks, with the ball club looking at possible trades to beef up its campaign.

Dwight Howard was linked just recently, but all that was immediately shot down by the Houston Rockets. The team made it clear that Howard is not on the block and that they will stick with the 6-foot-11-inch center until the end of the season.

But Howard is not the only one whom the Celtics are looking at. Another player on the list is Danilo Gallinari of the Denver Nuggets.

While Gallinari has been around to prove his worth, he is not considered as one of the players being hotly pursued by different teams. Just the same, the Celtics seem to be rebuilding (a bit) once more and the 27-year-old small forward is part of that phase.

Unfortunately, the Nuggets are thinking the same and will likely not budge. That is unless the Celtics have a player of equal or better caliber that can take the place of the Italian player.

Who that could be remains a mystery, although it could be anyone of the forwards Danny Ainge has right now. Such include Jared Sullinger or maybe even Kelly Olynyk who have been time and again named in previous trade talks.

The National Basketball Association (NBA) trade deadline is fast approaching, so it will be interesting to see if the Celtics can come up with a deal for Gallinari. If not him, there could be other prospects out there like maybe Markieff Morris of the Phoenix Suns.

At the rate that the Celtics are being aggressive, a deal could be closed soon.

The Celtics currently tote a 30–22 card, tied with the Atlanta Hawks at third spot of the Eastern Conference standings.

With an NBA playoff spot looming, the Celtics will want key players onboard to make a good run this year.
