Boston Celtics rumors 2016: Is Jae Crowder the second coming of Kevin Garnett?

Jae Crowder had long been a promising player when he was still with the Dallas Mavericks. That never showed up until he got traded to the Boston Celtics, with which he has been blossoming into one of the team's leaders.

Apparently, he's had that leadership qualities since day one, firing up his teammates and making it clear that they have to be held accountable for their actions on the court. And now, he is being likened to a former Celtic, Kevin Garnett who is probably winding up his career with the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Now on paper, Crowder may not be the Celtic that stands out. But it is his work ethics and his maturity despite the young age of 25 that have made him a key piece on the roster of head coach Brad Stevens.

Crowder was, of course, flattered with the comparison, someone he ironically looked up to. But as far as he is concerned, he is far from being the next Garnett of the Celtics, although he wasn't about to deny the fact that Garnett is one image he would want to be someday.

Compared to previous years, his entry into the Celtics have somehow taken shape. After scoring a breakthrough last season that saw the Celtics make the National Basketball Association (NBA) playoffs despite a tumultuous year, the team is far more composed and playing in a direction.

Crowder's constant barking may have rubbed off on his youthful teammates. That plus the fact that Crowder may have finally settled down and contributed on the floor has made him truly a key piece in the Celtics' aim to climb back to the top.

Although the Celtics are obviously lacking in some facets, Crowder's dedication may yet reap more dividends. And as long as Crowder fires up the troops, the Celtics are likely to be back to their proper place — among the contenders in the Eastern Conference.
