'Bond 25' spoilers: Story to involve real-world threat, take inspiration from original Ian Fleming books

Daniel Craig as James Bond Metro-Goldyn-Meyer Studios

Despite the latest "James Bond" film not hitting the same critical and financial acclaim that "Skyfall" did, MGM studios are busy at work on "Bond 25," the next film in the franchise. While details are sparse, this early in development, executive producer Gregg Wilson managed to talk about what the studios are going for in the next movie.

Speaking to Filmweb.no (translation via BirthMoviesDeath) Wilson explained that at this point the development team is still working on new ideas for the next film, hinting that a script is not yet in development.

"Each script process begins when we ask ourselves the question: 'What is the world afraid of now?' In the case of 'Spectre' the theme was global monitoring and utilization of information," Wilson stated. "So now we are trying to find out what will be relevant in the coming years."

Wilson also confirmed that the team is currently trying to make sure that the next "Bond" film will feel fresh despite the franchise being well over five decades old. Staying fresh and relevant is not the only important note as Wilson stated that the next movie must also be grounded and retain elements from the original Ian Fleming novels.

Whichever direction MGM will take, it is apparent that the studios intend on keeping Daniel Craig as the titular character. In a report from Yahoo! MGM has delayed "Bond 25" by one year, allowing Craig to star in the film "Purity" before coming back as James Bond.

According to Cinema Blend, Daniel Craig has more than proven himself as one of the best actors to don the James Bond role. Not only does Craig portray the character well and faithful to the Flemming novels but it would also save the studios a lot of time and effort if he would return instead of forcing them to go through another casting routine.
