Bishop calls nation to Wembley for day of prayer

The Bishop of Barking is calling on all Christians to make their way to Wembley this month for a historic day of prayer.

Up to 70,000 Christians from across the denominations and the UK are expected to take part in the National Day of Prayer and Worship on 29 September.

The Bishop of Barking, the Rt Rev David Hawkins said: "I commend this cross cultural interdenominational prayer event, which has been timed to be a culmination of the Christian response to the Olympic and Paralympic Games through More Than Gold.

“NDOP Wembley is the culmination of six years of stadium and Borough prayer events and periods of 24/7 prayer organised by the Global Day of Prayer London which I have chaired.”

The day of prayer will be joined by worship artists Tim Hughes, Matt Redman and Graham Kendrick, as well as the Hillsong team and the All Souls Orchestra.

Leaders from several Christian organisations will lead prayers for key issues affecting the nation, as well as the world, with special prayers to be led by Tearfund for the one in seven people going to bed hungry each night.

Bishop Hawkins concluded: “Please pray for the leadership teams as they make the final preparations for this day of prayer and worship."

Tickets are priced £10 until 17 September, after which they will £15.
