Bernie Nolan dies of cancer at age of 52

Bernie Nolan has died at the age of 52 after a battle with breast cancer.

She was the lead singer of 80s' girl group The Nolans, who enjoyed hits like "I'm In The Mood For Dancing" and "Don't Make Waves".

After her successful pop career, she starred in soaps like The Bill and Brookside.

She was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2010 and underwent chemotherapy and a mastectomy.  She was given the all-clear in 2012 but the disease returned and spread to her brain, bones, lungs and liver.

She was born Bernadette Therese Nolan in Dublin on 17 October 1960, the sister of Anne, Brian, Denise, Maureen, Tommy, Linda and Coleen.

"Bernie passed away peacefully this morning with all of her family around her," said a spokesperson for the family.

"The entire family are devastated to have lost beloved Bernie, a wonderful wife, adoring mother and loving sister, she is irreplaceable."
