'Batman: Arkham Knight' release news: gameplay trailer shows Dual Play mode

Game company Rocksteady Studios finally released the gameplay trailer for its highly anticipated action adventure game. The newest video for "Batman: Arkham Knight," narrated by head AI programmer Tim Hanagan, features the game's impressive dual play combat mode.

This is the first time that an installment in the "Batman: Arkham" video game franchise will offer the dual play mode, wherein players can easily switch between Batman and his allies as their playable character during the Free Flow Combat.

While changing the game's combat system does not normally provide a good result, the newest dual play feature appears to be in tune with "Arkham Knight's" goal of having a seamless rhythm and flow during combat.

In the latest gameplay demo, Batman and Nightwing work together to defeat the Penguin and his armies, with Batman using a surprise-attack strategy as he comes bursting through the ceiling. The trailer almost looks like the typical "Batman: Arkham" combat wherein players control Batman and the game's AI takes care of Nightwing. But with just a single press of the controller, players can now take over the control of Nightwing to provide more tactical options without having to affect the combat flow of the game.

Hanagan offered an explanation about how to maximize the use of the dual play combo, saying, "If you're building your combo with Batman and you see there's an enemy over by Nightwing you want to take out, you can switch to Nightwing."

Aside from Nightwing, players can also opt to take on the roles of other playable characters in the game, including Robin and Catwoman.

"Batman: Arkham Knight" is the next installment in the "Batman: Arkham" series following "Batman: Arkham Origins," which was introduced back in 2013.

The game will be released worldwide for next-generation consoles and PC starting June 23.
