Basketball star who stopped breathing revives after coach prays for him: 'The only thing I knew to do was to pray'

For those who still refuse to believe in the power of prayer, a story about a coach's miraculous conversation with God just might change skeptics' minds.

When the South Carolina State basketball team was playing against the North Carolina State, something terrible happened to the former's senior starting guard. Tyvoris "Ty" Solomon suddenly stopped breathing while sitting on the bench, and he collapsed to the ground, according to CBN News.

The team's athletic trainer, Tyler Long, began to perform CPR on Solomon. So Murray Garvin, their fifth-year head coach, did the only thing he knew would work miracles - pray. Garvin got down on his knees and pleaded with God to save Solomon's life, and the rest of the team and audiences followed suit.

"I asked God...I begged God, not Ty, not now," Murray said. "It was one of the scariest moments as a coach and as a human being. As a head coach, you feel a responsibility of taking care of your guys no matter what. The only thing I knew to do was to pray."

Both the CPR and their prayers worked, because Solomon was resuscitated. He was promptly transported to Rex Hospital in Raleigh, North Carolina, where he sought recovery.

"We all know that faith without works is dead," Garvin said of the acts that saved Solomon's life. "My faith and the faith of the arena...people were touching their televisions and praying."

Solomon's mother, Delores Speights, is thankful that there were godly people who were by her son's side when the emergency situation took place. "Just pretty much felt great to get the love, from people you know and people you don't know," she told the Raleigh News and Observer. "Just to know that there are still very good people out there and there are people that believe in the power of prayer and God. That is always good to know."
