ASUS ZenFone 2 to receive Android 6.0 OTA update

 ASUS official website

ASUS joins the growing list of brands that will be offering the highly awaited Android 6.0 Marshmallow update and the first device under its wing that will be receiving it is the ASUS Zenfone 2, one of the popular devices on their end.

Word about the coming of Android 6.0 M to the ASUS Zenfone 2 comes from the company's official forum. The Zenfone 2 with model number ZE550ML/ZE551ML is the first in line to get the said update.

Aside from the Zenfone 2, other devices that are set to receive the update as well include the Zenfone 2 Deluxe, Zenfone 2 Selfie, Padfone S, and the Zenfone 2 Laser.

The announcement should be welcome news to the Zenfone line owners, particularly the ones who have been having issues with the current Android 5.0 Lollipop.

So now, the question is when the Android 6.0 M updates will start rolling out. The company didn't give an exact date on when to expect the over-the-air (OTA) update, although it is believed that all that could start by the first quarter of 2016.

Among the features that Android 6.0 M will carry include Google Now, improved permissions on apps, better battery life with the aid of the much-talked about Doze app and so on. The roll out is likely to come out in phases as well, potentially depending on the carrier the Zenfone 2 owners are using.

It remains to be seen if the list of phones getting the Android 6.0 M update on the part of ASUS would be broadened, although such is a positive sign that should provide owners of other ASUS models wanting to get an Android update for better use of their mobile device.

With companies like Samsung and Motorola also detailing their list of devices set to get the Android 6.0 Marshmallow, it may only be a matter of time before ASUS would also broaden the list of devices getting the Android operating system bump.
