Apple Watch 2 release date, specs rumors: Two watch models rumored to come; Wearable said to include GPS, faster processor

A new round of rumors recently surfaced regarding the highly speculated Apple Watch 2. It is now speculated that the second generation of the company's wearable will now feature GPS, faster processor, longer-lasting battery, improved waterproofing, a built-in barometer and more.

The new set of features rumored to arrive to the Apple Watch 2 came from KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. He recently presented a research note to investors and predicted the features that will arrive with the rumored device. He initially mentioned that fans can expect the smartwatch to arrive anytime this second half of the year, MacRumors reported.

Kuo mentioned that the upcoming wearable will not have much of a difference in its predecessor when it comes to the form-factor; it will look similar. It will also have the same thickness despite using a slimmer display technology. It will also feature a cellular connectivity but is not LTE-capable until next year's model.

Interestingly, the famous analyst also mentioned that an upgraded first-generation Apple Watch will also be released this year and will have the same processor but better waterproofing. It will not contain GPS or the barometer, which is reserved for the second-generation model.

Major facelift for the wearable is expected by 2018 or 2019. Medical and health apps might also be incorporated, pending an FDA approval.

9To5Mac stated that the Apple Watch may receive another round of price cut as the launch date for the next products comes near. The smartwatch may receive a US$100 discount, pushing the price down further more than the previous US$50 reduction.

CNET also reported that Kuo predicted earlier that the MacBook Pro 2016 will include an OLED touchscreen feature.
