Android M news: LG skipping Android 5.1.1 update for G series for new M Android OS?

Weeks have passed since the last 5.1.1 Android Lollipop update but some of the more recent handset releases still lack the latest Android platform, most notably LG's current flagship, the G series.

To date, LG's G2, G3, and the current G4 flagship still run on the 5.1.0 version of Android Lollipop, and the company remains mum on its plans regarding further updates. Observers say that LG is waiting for the upcoming new platform, Android M.

Should Google release the full version of the new mobile OS with ample time to spare, LG will be working on a tweaked design for the new platform and will launch it for the G2, G3, and G4 products, instead of going through a new 5.1.1 update. As of the moment, Android M is only available as a preview version for developers, and Google has yet to update its fans on the specific roll out date for the full version.

The rumors may have some truth to it, as this will not be the first time that LG will be skipping an Android update in favor of a new platform version. The company skipped the 4.4.3 and 4.4.4 KitKat versions before, and jumped straight from 4.4.2 to the Android 5.0 version for some of its devices.

Meanwhile, as Android micro updates trickle down to different devices, rumors say that since it has been some time since the handset was released, support for the LG G2 is dwindling down and it is just a matter of time before platform support for the device stops completely.

However, some reports say that the G2 is still slated to receive an Android 5.1.1 update, and the jump to a new Android version will give the G2 a more fluid performance, aside from an updated interface due to the G2 finally getting LG's UX 4.0 UI that will come with the update.
