Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Neo getting Android Lollipop 5.1 update

Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Neo users can look forward to a sweet surprise with Samsung UK confirming that the device is getting Android Lollipop. The handset is still stuck with Android KitKat 4.4.3, but Samsung had plans to bump it up all along.

In a Twitter exchange with a user who inquired when the said device will get its turn to have the Lollipop makeover. Samsung UK responded with a promise of dolling up the device soon.

@Antonio46366149 We can confirm that the Note 3 Neo will be moving to lollipop. Have you tried manually looking for updates? 1/2

The device will move up to Android 5.0 Lollipop, the base version of the newest OS developed by Google. Apps should open faster with the software on board as the ART run time is significantly improved. Users also get to enjoy some convenience-driven tweaks.

With Lollipop, the Recent Apps menu looks good and works better than ever. Users can easily go to Quick Settings by simply swiping two fingers down, and the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Neo should have longer battery life courtesy of Project Volta.

The star of the Android 5.0 Lollipop is the drastically revamped notification settings. Users can select which notifications they want to pop up on their screen. They can also hide ones with sensitive content and even set it up for notifications to not show up at all.

Unfortunately, there's no word when the update will hit the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Neo. It is fervently hoped, though, that it won't be a long wait. As for the regions involved, areas in the U.K. are expected to get Android 5.0 Lollipop first. It is still unclear which countries outside of it will receive it.

In other related news, AT&T has updated the Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 10.1 to Android 5.1.1 Lollipop. The U.S. carrier skipped Android 5.0 Lollipop for the tablet, which means that from KitKat, the device jumped all the way to the latest Lollipop build around.

The update is sent out over the air. Those who have yet to get the update can manually check its availability by going to Settings – General – About Device – Software Update – Check for Updates.
