Android 6.0 Marshmallow update for Xiaomi Mi 4, Mi Note coming soon

Although it has already been months after Google officially rolled out its new mobile OS version, many Android devices are still waiting for their Marshmallow update. Meanwhile, more mobile device brands and models are joining the Android M bandwagon.

Latest reports suggest that Xiaomi will be the next in line for an Android Marshmallow switch. According to GSM Arena, the company's operations manager took to Chinese social media site Weibo and confirmed the update. Although the announcement did not have any specific rollout date included, Xiaomi said that the update will come "soon."

When it rolls out, it will make the Mi 4 and Mi Note the first Xiaomi devices to be updated to Android M. In addition, these two devices would jump immediately to the new Android 6.0 environment, without updating to Lollipop. Both the Xiaomi Mi 4 and Mi Note are currently running on Android 4.4.4 KitKat.

However, instead of both Xiaomi devices making a full shift to Android Marshmallow, the new platform will come as a hybrid one, layered with Xiaomi's own MiUI interface. Gadgets 360 mentioned that when the Android M update releases, it will be enclosed with the new MiUI 7 interface. The new Xiaomi-homegrown platform rolled out late last year.

Xiaomi seems to be on a roll this year, and is currently taking steps for worldwide recognition. Earlier in 2015, Xiaomi inked a deal with Microsoft to promote its newest platform, and recently, the Chinese company announced that it is ready to roll out a Windows 10-based ROM for its Mi 4 flagship. In addition, the company also just recently added a new device to its growing smartphone lineup, the Redmi Note 3, as well as a new Mi Pad 2 tablet.

Meanwhile, it has also been rumored that Xiaomi is already working on releasing its newest premium smartphone flagship, the Mi 5.
