Android 6.0 Marshmallow release date for Sony Xperia Z coming soon

Android fans are still waiting for the latest platform version to roll out to their devices. With most of the Nexus lineups already having their Android 6.0 OTA notifications and the Nexus 5X and 6P having Android Marshmallow right out of the box, more users are wondering when they will get their own updates.

Tech manufacturers have already released their list of devices that will make the cut for an Android M update. Sony Mobile joined the bandwagon, and observers expect that the Z series will be the first ones in the successful Xperia lineup that will get the Android Marshmallow treatment.

Sony Mobile has revealed a list of their devices compatible with the new Android environment. Aside from the Xperia M5 and M4 Aqua, C4, and C5 Ultra, all of the flagships that have been listed for an upgrade belong to the Z series. While Sony Mobile has not released any specific date aside from the list announcement, observers are saying that the Xperia roll out will start soon.

According to NeuroGadget, Sony has already revealed that there is already a build for the new Android platform being tested for the Z3 and Z3 Compact flagships. However, since this is only a test build, the Android M version is only available to a handful of select users.

Meanwhile, aside from the Z3 and Z3 Compact, other Xperia Z iterations that will get the Android 6.0 update include the three latest Xperia Z5 variants, the Z4 tablet, the Z3+ and Z3 compact tablet, and Xperia Z2 tablet.

It is also rumored that Sony may extend the Android Marshmallow roll out to include the Xperia Z1 and Xperia Z Google Play Edition in the Android M update.

Android 6.0 was announced by Google more than a month ago. Outside of the newly released Nexus devices and the HTC One A9 (which came out of the box with Android 6.0), the new Android platform has only been rolled out to a handful of devices as of this time. However, it is expected that the roll out will pick up in the first quarter next year.
