Android 6.0 Marshmallow update release for HTC One M9, HTC One 8, and more devices

With tech manufacturer HTC the most recent company to out a flagship with the new One A9, many fans and industry observers are wondering if the company will be also be among the first ones to get an Android 6.0 Marshmallow update.

According to industry insider Digital Trends, HTC had an existing 90-day guarantee to update its roster of smartphones to an existing new platform. With this, HTC unit owners can wait for their OTA Marshmallow updates. However, not all HTC handsets will be able to migrate to the new Android 6.0 platform.

HTC already announced that its latest premium flagship, the One M9, is already scheduled to receive the new Android platform. Meanwhile, aside from the M9, other M-series units like the previous M8, M9+, and One M8 EYE are also slated to receive the update.

Other HTC handsets that will also receive the new Android Marshmallow are the One E8, Butterfly 3, and the 826, 820, and 816 from the Butterfly series. Although no OTA dates have yet been specified, one flagship in particular is supposed to receive Android Marshmallow this month. HTC vice-president of product management Mo Versi confirmed via a tweet that the Google Play Edition One M8 will have its update in October.

Meanwhile, the new One A9 is set to ship out with the new Android 6.0 Marshmallow right out of the box. In addition, it was reported that aside from the Nexus lineup of devices, the new HTC flagship is also one of the first devices to receive continuous updates of the new Android platform. According to TechnoBuffalo, HTC U.S. president Jason Mackenzie was quoted during the launch as saying that the new updates for Android 6.0 Marshmallow will be received by HTC devices 15 days after it rolls out for Nexus units.
