AMD is all set to be competitive again in the processor arena, which has been dominated by Intel for years. The multinational semiconductor company is pushing its latest Zen-based processors that boast performance, throughput and efficiency.
AMD took the opportunity to unleash further details regarding their soon-to-be-released family of processors on the opening day of Hot Chips 2016 in Silicon Valley. The company is now pushing its 14nm FinFET node processors, which feature 40 percent more instructions per clock compared to its previous technology, the Excavator core.
"AMD's high-performance x86 Core 'Zen' architecture delivers an unprecedented 40 percent improvement in instructions-per-clock cycle over the previous generation AMD core, without increasing power," the company stated on its website.
It added, "The new 'Zen' core is the engine at the heart of inspired new computing products from AMD expected in market next year. An all-new, clean sheet, high performance x86 core, "Zen" is designed for maximum data throughput and instruction execution plus high bandwidth, low latency cache-memory support for optimal compute efficiency."
The company revealed that limited quantities of Summit Ridge processors for desktop will be available before the year ends, while the majority will be available starting in the first quarter of next year. It will be also be offered in different models, from quad core to octa core, which will all be multi-threaded and have overclock support. Support for the latest DDR4 memory, PCI-e and I/O are also expected to come with the AM4 platform CPUs, WFFCTech reported.
The server market will then experience the Zen's power with its Naples platform, and AMD showcased a fully functioning 32 core-64 thread processor. It is set to roll out by the second quarter of next year. This will be followed by the Raven Ridge laptop APUs and SoCs.
AMD is currently enjoying an increase in the prices of its stocks since it unveiled its new generation of processors last week.
