Because of the positive reviews for the recently released AMD RX 470 and RX 480 graphics cards, there is plenty of excitement over the release of the next version, which is the AMD RX 490.
The RX 490 is touted to be AMD Radeon's answer to its fiercest competition, the NVIDIA GTX 1080, which is ahead performance wise compared tto RX 490's predecessor, the RX 480. In terms of value, the RX 480 was considered a good alternative because of its price point of $289-$299.
"For those that don't have pockets deep enough to keep up with the bleeding edge, AMD's Polaris 10 architecture aims for the sweet spot and ends up being mighty tasty. It may not be the fillet mignon of graphics cards, but you can enjoy several good RX 480 steaks for the price of a GTX 1080 fillet," PC Gamer tech reviewer Jarred Walton posted.
A report by WCCF Tech detailed early leaks about the latest graphics card by both AMD and its partner Sapphire on their official sites.
Early rumors lean towards the RX 490 using the latest Polaris technology which AMD is known for. It is also speculated that because it is being touted as the perfect gaming graphics card, it will have a huge memory interface that is over 256 bit in order to support 4K gaming requirements.
It was also reported that the RX 490 will use Polaris 10 like its predecessor but there is also a possibility that it could use the Vega 10 architecture.
However, pundits are on the fence about the veracity of this rumor as the Vega 10 is set for release in 2017 but projected release of RX 490 is late this year.
It is likely that it will also adopt the dual GPU solution that is set to become a trend among graphic cards vying for speed and performance.
While the official release date is yet to be announced, there are some speculations that the graphics card could come as early as November this year.
Meanwhile , there are also those that hint of a December 2016 release date based on the post of a redditor who leaked the RX490 listing.
