Alcatel OneTouch Idol 3 4.7 release date set this week: Specs roundup

Alcatel OneTouch Idol 3 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch Alcatel OneTouch Official

One of the consistent players in the smartphone market is Alcatel. Although many smartphone users may prefer premium handsets from big-name manufacturers, Alcatel still manages to cater to its own niche of users by providing a stylish yet solid design, good to better performance, and a price range that is agreeable to many.

Launched earlier this year, the company's flagship OneTouch Idol 3 is one example of Alcatel workmanship. The 5.5-inch display and 1080p resolution, partnered with an octa-core Snapdragon processor and mid-range features likens the flagship to other budget-friendly phones such as the Asus ZenFone 2 and the Moto G series.

When the OneTouch Idol 3 was released, Alcatel stated that the flagship is part of a one-two combo, and the latest company release confirms a new product under the lineup.

Alcatel has announced that sooner than what fans think, the company will be rolling out the smaller brother to Alcatel's flagship, a 4.7-inch version of the OneTouch Idol 3. Starting Aug. 14, Alcatel fans can get the smaller version in the U.S. and Canadian markets for just $179.99. The Alcatel OneTouch Idol 3 4.7-inch variant can be purchased already unlocked, and is compatible with T-Mobile, AT&T, and other compatible networks in the U.S. and Canada.

Since the smaller OneTouch Idol 3 is far cheaper than its brother, the company did some downgrades in terms of specs. Although the design and form factor is very similar, such as the 7.55 mm thin body build and front-facing speakers and camera features, the smaller 4.7-inch display only offers 720p resolution as opposed to the bigger 5.5-inch's full HD display. The 4.7-inch variant of Idol 3 is also slightly less powerful, with a Snapdragon 410 processor and 1.5 GB of RAM.

The Idol 3 4.7-inch version is available in 16-GB storage, expandable via microSD; a 13-MP main shooter at the back and 5-MP front camera; Android 5.0 Lollipop; and a 2000 mAh battery.
