The upcoming offshoot to Marvel's "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." is slowly taking shape. After Entertainment Weekly broke the news about the planned series spinoff for the first television series from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, news are now rife about the main cast of the upcoming show.
Early this week, The Hollywood Reporter speculated that two of the most popular characters from "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." will be the main protagonists in the spinoff. According to the report, Bobbi Morse, also known as Mockingbird, as well as her former husband Lance Hunter will be the lead characters in the new series. The characters are portrayed by Adrianne Palicki and Nick Blood, respectively.
Morse entered the S.H.I.E.L.D. organization and agreed with agency head Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg), but she is secretly tied with the elderly Agent Robert Gonzalez (Edward James Olmos), who believes he knows how to run the "real S.H.I.E.L.D."
The Wrap also shared a possible spoiler for the spinoff, saying that the main characters of the show are ex spouses who have been included in a storyline involving Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson). This could only point to the two bickering characters.
The report also said that the other cast members of the present series still have no idea who among them, if any, will be involved in the spinoff.
Both ABC and Marvel still have to confirm if the casting rumors are true.
The said spinoff will be developed by current "S.H.I.E.L.D." executive producer Jeffrey Bell, and will be co-produced and written by Paul Zbyszewski.
The original Marvel's "Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D." series is currently in its second season, and it managed to get an average of 7.4 million viewers as well as a 2.8 rating in the 18-49 age group. It is expected to return for a third season later this year.
