A Christian Afghan mother was stabbed and killed just over a week ago in Bayern, Germany. Police are investigating a 'religious motivation' for the attack.

A 29-year old Muslim asylum seeker has been accused of stabbing the mother, who was killed in front of her children, according to Evangelical Focus.

The 38-year old woman, known only as FS, was stabbed on Saturday 29 April outside a supermarket, and died of her injuries in hospital. She had hailed from Afghanistan and was an 'example of integration', according local authorities in the town of Prien am Chiemsee, Bayern, where she had sought refuge.

FS was a committed Christian who was baptised eight years ago. She had been a member of an Evangelical Protestant church in Prien, and supported an Afghan Bible study group organised by a neighbouring free evangelical church. She leaves behind her two children, aged five and 11.

Her suspected attacker is a Muslim who is known for being psychologically unstable, and has been temporarily sent to a psychiatric institution, according to RT. It is also believed that he knew FS.

FS' sister told German newspaper Bild that she 'was killed because she was a Christian'.

Police spokesman Stefan Sonntag said that 'a religious motivation is being examined, although we cannot confirm this yet'.

Dozens of neighbours, friends, and Christian leaders reportedly gathered to support the relatives of the mother at the victim's funeral, where about 200 attended.
