8 scriptures on finding peace in God's presence

People's source of peace can vary. Others will look to financial security, relationships, churches or even their own strength for peace. God's Word promises us that of all things, nothing can give more peace than Jesus Christ who gave His life up for us so that we would receive His peace.

Peace of mind has now turned into a valuable and scarce commodity and people are always trying to find ways to buy more of it. We invest in insurance, stocks, home security systems and a whole lot of other products and services to buy peace. Having these things isn't actually bad, but it just comes to show just how much we all value peace.

The Bible gives us numerous promises of God being a true and ever-reliable source of peace. We can gain peace in many different ways, but almost everything in this world is not a foolproof source of peace. Money will come and go, insurance policies may flop or fold, stocks will always be erratic, and security systems will fail. But God will never fail as a readily available giver of peace.

Here are eight of the many scriptures promising us that we will find peace in God's presence because Jesus Christ has given us a way to Him.

Psalm 29:11 — "The LORD gives strength to his people; the LORD blesses his people with peace."

Psalm 119:165 — "Great peace have those who love your law, and nothing can make them stumble."

Isaiah 9:6 — "For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace."

Isaiah 54:10 — "'For the mountains may depart and the hills be removed, but my steadfast love shall not depart from you, and my covenant of peace shall not be removed,' says the Lord, who has compassion on you."

John 16:33 — "I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world."

Romans 15:13 — "May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope."

Philippians 4:6 — "Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God."

Colossians 3:15 — "And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful."
