2016 Toyota Mirai release date set for October

Hailed as one of the more frequent steps toward more sustainable transportation, the upcoming 2016 Toyota Mirai is confirmed to be arriving in October this year.

In anticipation of its imminent arrival, Toyota Motors has also opened up the online order system for the upcoming model. However, there is one catch – the order and delivery system is only available for California residents.

In addition to the limited location, Toyota will also screen out the participants in the online order process — this will not be a first-come-first serve type of delivery. Instead, potential buyers need to log on to the dedicated Mirai page to place a request for reservation. Since production of the Mirai is on a limited run, potential owners will be contacted directly by Toyota representatives from the eight authorized California dealers in order to process ownership.

Although the company has not stated if a showroom piece will be showcased even before the expected rollout, fans of the Mirai and those who are thinking of switching into hybrids can check with authorized Toyota dealers for upcoming updates. In Northern California, the authorized dealers include those in Sunnyvale, Stevens Creek, San Francisco, and Roseville. Meanwhile, Southern Californians can get in touch with Tustin, Santa Monica, Longo, and Toyota Orange for details.

The upcoming Toyota Mirai is a hybrid electric vehicle, using hydrogen fuel cells for power. The upcoming model is distinctly known to have the highest EPA estimated driving range for its kind, coming in at 312 miles and was tested at 67 miles per gallon equivalent. Acceleration is also decent, with the car revving from 0 to 60 in just 9 seconds.

It is also confirmed that when released, the 2016 Toyota Mirai will have a price tag of at least $57,000 plus other charges.

Toyota has plans of releasing only 3,000 units of the model, and after California, will expand to New York, New Jersey, Rhode Island, and Connecticut.
