'The Walking Dead' trolls 'The Punisher' on Twitter

When official Twitter account for "The Punisher" posted a teaser video online, "The Walking Dead's" account saw and took the perfect opportunity to troll its former star, Jon Bernthal.

"The Walking Dead" account then quoted the tweet and said, "We'll assume it says 'I'm Judith's real father.'"

What exactly is the "The Walking Dead" talking about? Well, before Bernthal was "The Punisher," he was Shane Walsh in the hit zombie apocalypse TV series.

Shane was a main character who ended up sleeping with his best friend Rick Grimes' (Andrew Lincoln) wife, Lori (Sarah Wayne Callies), when Rick fell into a coma.

After Rick woke up from the coma, he ended up killing Shane. Coincidentally, Lori was pregnant and Rick raised the child as his own, without knowing whether or not he was the real father.

Judith is, of course, Lori's child with either Shane or Rick.

Netflix's official account joined in on the Twitter exchange by replying, "Don't punish dead inside," after which "The Punisher" tweeted a GIF of Frank Castle looking distraught.

Fans were delighted at the Twitter exchange, which felt almost like a crossover between Bernthal's two comic-based projects.

"The Walking Dead" is based on the comics of the same name which was started by writer Robert Kirkman and artist Tony Moore in 2003.

Meanwhile, the Punisher first debuted as a villain to Spider-Man. The character became so popular, however, that Marvel decided to give it its own comic series.

"The Punisher" stars Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, Ben Barnes as Jigsaw, Amber Rose Devah as Dinah Madani, Jaime Ray Newman as Sarah Lieber, Daniel Webber as Lewis Walcott and Paul Schulze as Rawlins.

The Netflix and Marvel tie-up series premieres in late 2017.
