Eclipse waits for a plan in "The Gifted"

The upcoming episode of "The Gifted" will involve the pasts of several characters. Episode 7 in particular, has Eclipse (Sean James Teale) answering a call from his ex-girlfriend mob boss Carmen (Michelle Veintimilla).

The official synopsis of episode 7 of "The Gifted," titled "eXtreme measures," reveals that Eclipse has to revisit his dark past in order to protect the Mutant Underground. Previously, in an effort to free Polaris (Emma Dumont) from Sentinel Services, Eclipse had to come to Carmen for some information, knowing that she has people everywhere, including the anti-mutant agency. Carmen agreed to give him the information that he needed in exchange for his services once again when it comes to making people talk. If he refused the deal, then Carmen would have him and the Mutant Underground turned in.

Reed (Stephen Moyer) and Sage (Hayley Lovitt), on the other hand, look through the secret files they retrieved. In the process, they find out something about Lauren's (Natalie Alyn Lind) friend, Wes (Danny Ramirez). He certainly proved to be very helpful when it came to diverting the attention of Sentinel Services away from the truck that held Eclipse, Reed, and Andy (Percy Hynes White), but with what Reed will find out about him, will it be a good kind of surprising or a bad kind?

Thunderbird (Blair Redford), will help Blink (Jamie Chung) open up about her past life. Blink is still quite a mysterious character that has stuck around, at least until the previous episode, after finding out what Dreamer (Elena Satine) had done to her. She also felt betrayed that Thunderbird did not say anything about it as well, despite having figured it out before.

As for Jace (Coby Bell), he will greenlight a special surveillance program with the help of Dr. Roderick Campbell (Garrett Dillahunt). Fans know that Dr. Campbell has taken interest in the Strucker siblings, having offered his help to Jace before, only to be turned down. Jace later on agreed to help him out, and as the name of the episode implies, he really is taking some extreme measures this time around. What Dreamer did to him only fueled his hatred for mutants, something which Dr. Campbell wants to use to his advantage.

"The Gifted" takes place in a world where the X-Men, along with the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, and the Mutant Liberation Front are gone. They exist in this timeline, but they are nowhere to be found. Fans have been led to believe that the Mutant Underground exists as a separate mutant faction with the cause of giving mutants a means of escaping persecution by the government.

The July 15th incident resulted in the execution of anti-mutant laws and therefore brought about the Mutant Underground, a little while before the X-Men vanished. The latest episode revealed that the X-Men and the Mutant Underground have a deeper connection than what fans expected. Thunderbird had a conversation with Dreamer where he starts questioning whether or not the X-Men made a mistake in choosing him to be part of the Underground.

This definitely indicates that the X-Men were also involved in choosing which mutants will be part of the underground faction. Along with picking out the members, it was also revealed that the X-Men warned them that a war was coming before they mysteriously disappeared, without even saying if the mutants would win the war or not.

There is a chance that the X-Men knew that they would be away for some time, and formed the Mutant Underground to make sure that other mutants that were on the run had a place to turn to once or while they were away.

It is possible X-Men might have gotten a warning from the future telling them about an impending war between mutants and humans, "Days of Future Past" style. Should it be the case, then it seems that the storyline from the comics has a lot of influence on "The Gifted," which would totally make sense, given the introduction of the Hounds. It could also prove to be another hint that Rachel Summers would also be coming to the show.

"The Gifted" airs Mondays at 10 p.m. EST on FOX.
